KATHUA, Dec 30: The people and patients from District Hospital, Kathua today held strong protest demonstration against the State Health department for deteriorating health services in the district hospital here and blocked Jammu-Pathankot National Highway near Kalibari for an hour.
The people were protesting against the Health Minister Bali Bhagat for not posting any Radiologist in District Hospital, Kathua for the last more than three months. They alleged that the post of Medical Superintendent is also lying vacant in Kathua hospital and the post of Radiologist has not been filled up after the transfer of the doctor of this wing from here about three and half months back.
There is no such facility of ultra-sound / CT scan in Bani, Basohli, Billawar and Hiranagar tehsils and the doctors refer such cases to DH, Kathua. But the Radiology wing at Kathua Hospital is also lying defunct as no concerned doctor was posted there. The condition has worsened after changing portfolio of Ch Lal Singh.
The patients and their attendants were irked after they found no doctor in the OPD at Kathua hospital till 11.15 AM today. They alleged that even in the emergency wing there was no doctor till 11 AM. They got agitated over the matter and came out on the National Highway and started protest. They were raising slogans against Health Minister Bali Bhagat and Director Health, Jammu.
The traffic came to grinding halt on the busy highway and massive traffic jam was created there. Later, ADC Kathua Dr Bharat Bhushan and DSP Hqs reached the spot. They assured to take up the issue with the Director Health, Jammu. Then the protesting people lifted dharna.
