Protest against forced conversion organised

JAMMU, Oct 30: Demanding probe into the conversion of Buddhist people from Zanskar town of district Kargil to Islam, members from civil society held a protest demonstration outside Press Club, here today.
Amid slogans, hundreds of members of the civil society including persons of various socio-religious organizations, flayed the Government for its failure to handle the situation in the Buddhist-dominated Zanskar town in district Kargil, where curfew was clamped after clashes between two communities, which had resulted in injuries to three persons including a senior official.
Youths from Zanskar and other towns of district Kargil also participated in the demonstrations against the forcible conversions of the members of six families of Buddhists of Zanskar and use of force during curfew.
While speaking, Stanzin Yongdus said that in Zanskar although Buddhists are in majority in some areas, yet they have been facing unabated harassment in the hands of Muslim Community, and when anyone brings this into the notice of the Administration no action is being taken against the people involved.
Ashwani Chrungoo, president, Panun Kashmir asked the Buddhists to make aware all those people who are on important positions about these developments.
Dr Ramakant Dubey, president, VHP asked that State and Central Governments to thoroughly investigate the matter and take stern action against those who are responsible for forced conversions.
