Protest after shooting stone kills pedestrian

KISHTWAR, Dec 18: During road construction in Sangambhati Mughal Maidan area, a pedestrian got injured after being hit by a shooting stone and later on succumbed to his injuries at a local health centre. Anguished over the incident, people of the area placed the body on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag Highway and stopped vehicular traffic for several hours.
As per reports the deceased was identified as Makhna, son of Sultan, resident of Malwar Sigdi and he was walking on the road at Sangambhati area falling under Chatroo Police Station when a stone hit him leaving him seriously injured.
He was shifted to a nearby health centre where he died after sometime.
As soon as the information about the incident spread in the area, family members of the deceased and locals reached the spot and placed the body on highway which affected the vehicular for more than four hours.
The protesters alleged that in the name of development, companies are engaged in road construction everyday to play with the lives of people and the same has also disturbed whole environment of area.
The protesters were demanding arrest of the officials of the company constructing the road and adequate compensation to the family of the deceased besides a job to one of his family members.
On getting information about the incident, SDM Chatroo, Shwokat Matoo; DySP DAR, Sajad Khan; SHO Charoo, Sandeep Parihar and other officers reached spot and tried to pacify the people.
After the protesters were satisfied with the action by the administration and compensation to the family of the deceased and a job to one of his family members, the protesters dispersed and took away the dead body.
