*Clinic sealed, police arrests owner

RAJOURI, Feb 24: A 15-year-old girl, resident of Dandkot Malhut in Darhal area of Rajouri district, died in Rajouri town today, when she went to a private dental clinic for examination and died after getting an injection prescribed by a doctor there.
The death of minor girl sparkled massive protest, prompting the authorities to seal the clinic and arrest the accused medical staff member there.
The mother of 15-year-old Asrat Naaz, daughter of Mohammad Shafiq, told that her daughter had a toothache due to which she reached GMC Rajouri but at 8:30 am the doctor was not available in GMC, but her daughter was in a lot of pain, so she took her to a private dental clinic in front of GMC, where the doctor examined her and gave a slip for giving her injection.
After the doctor prescribed the medicine, the woman took the girl to a chemist shop adjacent to the dental clinic where she was given an injection which made the girl unconscious. After that, she was given two more injections at the chemist shop itself, but the girl did not regain consciousness.
In a hurry, the same doctor took an auto and rushed her to GMC Rajouri where the doctor declared her dead. As soon as the news of the girl’s death spread, many people from her village and her relatives gathered at GMC Rajouri and placed her body on the road outside GMC and started protesting.
Advocate Zaki, a resident of Darhal, who was leading the protest, said that such accidents happen every day in Rajouri, sometimes someone dies due to the negligence of doctors in GMC, then in some private clinics, untrained and unqualified people are sitting. They have been given license to kill innocent people. He also demanded that the police should register a murder case against the doctor and arrest him and seal his clinic, otherwise, they will continue to protest.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the police sealed a chemist shop named Pir Panchal Medicos running along with Elite Dental Clinic, Khewra, Rajouri and took its owner Tosif Shah into custody.
Meanwhile CMO Rajouri Dr ML Rana also took strict cognizance of the matter and got the Elite Dental Clinic sealed and formed a 5-member committee and issued orders for investigation. According to the CMO, a team has been formed under the chairmanship of Dental Surgeon Dr. Ghulam Qadir Bhatt and directions have been given to investigate the records of the clinic, such as registration etc and submit a report. Later, the relatives lifted girl’s body and stalled their protest.
