Proposal sent to Govt for including new areas under TDAs: Mir

JAMMU, Mar 5:  The Government has created seven Tourism Development Authorities (TDAs) to harness the tourism potential of the areas of Jammu region which include Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Surinsar-Mansar, Lakhanpur-Sarthal and Patnitop Development Authorities.
This information was given by the Minister for Tourism, G. A. Mir while replying to a question of Naresh Kumar Gupta in Legislative Council today.
The Minister informed the House that the bed capacity of the hotels in Jammu region is 32,121 which include 4675 bed capacity, added during the last three years including 28471 beds in private sector and 3650 in public sector with the Directorate of Tourism and Tourism Development Corporation.
Mr Mir while replying to supplementaries raised by Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, Dr. Bashir Veeri, Ravinder Sharma and Sheikh Ghulam Rasool said that a comprehensive proposal has been formulated and forwarded to Union Government for including the new areas of Jammu in the Tourism Development Authorities.
Replying to another question of Mohammad Ashraf Mir, the Minister said SKICC has earned income to the tune of Rs. 478 lakh from 2009 to 2012 and organization has procured the required items from authorized dealers after conducting proper market survey by the Standing Purchase Committee constituted for the purpose.
