Properties of drug peddlers attached

SRINAGAR, May 22: Police today intensified the anti-drug campaign across Kashmir by attaching properties of alleged drug peddlers, busting a psychotropic drugs network and destroying illegal poppy cultivation.
A police spokesperson said police in Baramulla attached a residential property worth around Rs. 30 lakh belonging to alleged drug peddler Zahid Ahmad Mir of Checkthan Chanpora, Tangmarg under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act. The action was taken after investigations in several NDPS cases registered at Police Station Tangmarg.
In Shopian, police attached a residential house worth Rs. 21.99 lakh belonging to Shameem Ahmad Bhat of Poterwal Keegam in connection with FIR No. 275/2025 of Police Station Shopian. “The property was identified as having been acquired through proceeds generated from illegal drug trade,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson further said police in Pattan busted an illegal psychotropic drugs supply network operating through medical establishments. Acting on specific information, police raided “Musa Medicate” near Trauma Hospital Pattan and arrested proprietor Musadiq Rashid Yatoo after recovering 105 Tramadol tablets.
“During investigation, another accused identified as Irfan Yousuf, proprietor of Wani Pharma Distributor, was found involved in supplying psychotropic drugs without proper billing and legal procedure,” the spokesperson said.
Police later recovered 690 tablets of Etisoma-0.25 and 100 tablets of Cloprax-B20 during searches at the distributor’s premises and residence. Both accused were arrested and the establishments sealed, police said. Digital devices including laptops, mobile phones and a DVR were also seized for forensic examination.
Meanwhile, police in Kokernag, Anantnag, destroyed illegal opium poppy cultivation at Soaf Shali after registering FIR No. 55/2026. “Samples were collected for forensic examination and the crop was destroyed as per legal procedure,” the spokesperson said.
