In the winter session of Parliament the Promotion Bill could not be passed due to opposition by the Samajwadi Party members.
Though BSP Supremo Mayawati was instrumental in introducing the Bill and getting it passed in Rajya Sabha, she could not do so in the Lok Sabha.
This is because she only took the cause of SC and ST left OBCs and unrepresented. Had she also taken the cause of OBCs, she might have been supported by other parties as well.
Her statement that she will support promotion for OBCs in another bill (Daily Excelsior Dec 24) underscores the petty politics the politicians indulge in to further their objectives. She should have taken up the cause of OBCs as well and succeeded in getting the Promotion Bill passed.
