Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Govt asked to promote tourism in Jammu’ DE July 3.
The stakeholders connected with Tourism Industry from Jammu have time and again stressed upon the Government to promote tourism in Jammu region. The Government on its part keeps assuring the stakeholders that promoting tourism sector in this region is a priority with the administration. Besides these assurances nothing concrete has been done.
The tourism sector in Jammu is confined to pilgrimages–Vaishnodevi and Amarnathji. It has never grown beyond that and will remain so in future as well in case Government does not come out with a concrete plan to promote tourism in this part. The picturesque places that dot the region have never been promoted in a manner so as to attract tourists in droves. The beautiful places whether in Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Rajouri or Poonch have remained neglected and unexplored. The peripheral areas of Bhaderwah are quite mesmerising and can pamper the ego of tourists. But, one feels disappointed that there is no proper infrastructure available in these areas. The road connectivity is very poor, and can pose problems to tourists. Likewise, communication network is not upto standard. Civic amenities too are missing at many tourist places.
Unless Government pays attention to these places, they can’t be promoted as tourist spots.
Yours etc..
Veer Singh
