Promoting Cooperatives

Sir,
This has reference to the ‘message’ issued by the Minister of Agriculture & Food Processing Industries Government of India DE Oct 16.
Though, as per the message, cooperatives are operative across all sectors including agriculture, but it may be said that cooperatives in agriculture do  not exist in the Jammu and Kashmir State.
According to Director General FAO, Rome, a Cooperative is an association of women and men who come together to form a jointly owned, democratically controlled enterprise where generating a profit is only part of the story. Cooperatives put people before profit. They also help their members achieve their shared social, cultural and economic aspiration.
In case, the Agricultural Ministry is really interested in promoting cooperatives, it should start a sincere campaign in this regard. The Government should reach the farmers, explain the idea and see its implementation in  true sense. If implemented, one expects that the objectives as enshrined in the concept of cooperatives will be realized.
Yours etc….
