JAMMU, July 15: The prominent citizens of Jammu held a meeting to discuss ongoing turmoil in Kashmir valley and all other related issues with particular focus of maintaining peace and communal harmony in Jammu province. During the discussion, the members expressed their concern over happenings in Kashmir Valley for the last couple of weeks. They impressed upon the people the need to maintain calm and communal harmony in Jammu so that Amarnath Yatra is held and concluded in a peaceful manner.
The members further highlighted the need of such interactive session so that social bonds are strengthened and the peaceful atmosphere of Jammu province is maintained at all costs. Rajesh Gupta vice president VHP, Rakesh Gupta president Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu, S Peter, Maj. Gen. (retd) G. S Jamwal, Col. (retd) Karan Singh, Sheikh Shakil, Yash Pal Gupta (FRAJ), Brig. (retd) M. S Jamwal , Rajinder Motial and Y.V Sharma former president Chamber of Commerce and Industry also expressed their views on the occasion and expressed the need to defeat the nefarious designs of anti-social elements to disturb the atmosphere of peace in Jammu.
Speakers expressed concern on unfortunate happenings in Kashmir Valley and impressed upon the State and Central Govts to restore peace in Kashmir valley. The speakers also appealed the parents and prominent members of civil society of Kashmir valley to rise to the occasion and restore peace in Kashmir valley. It should be understood that violence is no solution to any problem and it brings only death and destruction. Kashmir valley has witnessed the violence for the last over 25 years but without any positive result. The creed of violence has to be eliminated so that peace prospers. The members of Civil Society expressed their grief and sorrow over loss of human lives in Kashmir valley and asked the Government to ensure that the cycle of violence is stopped.
The members of Civil Society also warned the forces who are working against the peaceful atmosphere of State of serious consequences and impressed upon them not to push youth of Kashmir on the path of violence. While concluding the meeting, the organizers expressed their deep gratitude to the prominent members of civil society of Jammu for their positive response, who attended today’s meeting, showing their concern for what is happening in the State. They further said that people of Jammu have exhibited their large heartedness during the period of turmoil in the State, they salute the sagacity and wisdom of people of Jammu who have maintained best tradition of communal harmony during last three decades. They highlighted the need of better understanding between various sections of civil society in Jammu so that peace and communal harmony in Jammu is maintained and religious tourism connected with Mata Vaishno Devi and Amarnath Ji is not affected.
They suggested that the forum of Civil Society should be made broad based and permanent to face any challenge in future. Prominent among others who attended the meeting were as under:-
