JAMMU, Jan 30: Career Counselling Cell of Government P G College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu in collaboration with Psychological-cum-Career Counselling and Placement Cell, Higher Education Department (HED) organized today an online interaction programme on the topic “Drug Abuse and Addiction”.
Commissioner Secretary HED, Talat Parvez Rohella was the chief patron of the programme. The programme was inaugurated by the patron and Principal of the College, Dr Sangita Nagari. Director Colleges, Peerzada Mohd Yousaf also graced the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Peerzada Mohd Yousaf advised the parents, teachers and students to come forward and talk about their psychological problems freely, eliminating the stigma attached with psychological problems. He also made the participants aware about the initiatives taken by the Higher Education Department for achieving the goals of Education.
Prof Ambica Kumari, Nodal Officer for Career Counselling coordinated the programme. She motivated the students for further disseminating the information and knowledge gained from the resource person to other students also. She also acted as a moderator for the programme.
Dr Abhishek Chowhan, Consultant Psychiatrist, Office incharge Psychiatric Diseases Hospital (Administration), Officer incharge Deaddiction services (Clinical), Government Medical College Jammu, was the resource person of the webinar. He explained in detail about types of drugs, its sources, ill effects and abuse.
Dr Chowhan informed the parents, students and teachers about treatments available to help addicted ones for managing the drug addiction successfully.
The event was attended by more than 100 students online. Students and parents raised a number of queries and the resource person addressed the queries of the participants. The power point presentation by the Resource person provided complete knowledge about the drug abuse and addiction to participants.
The programme ended with vote of thanks presented by Prof Anupma Sharma, Assistant Professor in Education.
