Prof Zutshi seeks grant in aid for Gandhi College

JAMMU, June 22: Professor B L Zutshi, the newly elected president of Hindu Education Society Kashmir (HESK) today urged the Government to provide grant-in-aid funding for running of Gandhi Memorial College, Jammu.
Prof Zutshi who was addressing a function of HESK held in connection with oath taking ceremony of its newly elected members in the college premises here said that without grant in aid the functioning of this prestigious educational institute is not possible and expressed the hope that Government will consider the demand on priority basis so that the pristine glory of this institute can be restored.
He said that Gandhi Memorial College, Srinagar is and must be part of our Society, and Gandhi Memorial College at Jammu should be part of GMC Srinagar.
Prof Zutshi who took over president assured to work at his best for the betterment of HESK. On the occasion the outgoing president and well known KP leader, Moti Koul donated Rs one lakh to HESK and handed over a cheque to Prof Zuthsi.
Moti Koul stated that accountability and transparency are essential to the growth and development of any organization. He stressed that this Society has potential and has a bright future in the years to come.
Moti Koul administered the oath of office to Prof Zuthsi and others. The other members who were administered oath of office included Prof. Verinder Rawal general secretary, S.K. Raina Member Finance, Prof. G L Koul Member Education, Prof. Savita Raina, M K Jalali, V.K. Raina, Prof. G K Muju and M K Bangroo senior journalist. They were also elected as Member of the Executive Body of the Society.
Hindu Education Society Kashmir was established by philanthropic personalities of Kashmiri Pandit community with the sole objective of promoting and propagating the cause of education, learning, research and training and also for propagating /promoting social and cultural activities in the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir. It established the first non-governmental educational institute in Jammu and Kashmir under the aegis of “Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar” at Fateh Kadal in 1942-43.
The outgoing general secretary, Dr. Satesh Bhan, also addressed the audiences.
