JAMMU, Apr 28: Prof (Dr) Shakti K Gupta, a distinguished healthcare leader and honorary professor at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu, has been conferred the prestigious Six Sigma Healthcare Excellence Award 2026 for being named “Healthcare Ambassador of the Year.”
The honour was presented at Taj Palace, New Delhi, by Member of Parliament and veteran actress Hema Malini, along with former parliamentarian Jaya Prada.
Describing the recognition as humbling, Prof Gupta said it reinforces the importance of building resilient healthcare systems rooted in compassion, accessibility, and excellence. He dedicated the award to healthcare professionals across the country and reiterated his commitment to advancing patient-centric care and institutional excellence.
Hailing from Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, Prof Gupta’s journey reflects perseverance and visionary leadership. He is an alumnus of Government Medical College Jammu and AIIMS New Delhi. He began his career in J&K Health Services and later served at AIIMS New Delhi, where he headed the Department of Hospital Administration and introduced several academic and administrative initiatives.
Prof Gupta earlier served as the Founding Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Jammu, where he played a key role in developing the institution into a modern healthcare facility with a strong focus on patient care and infrastructure growth.
At IIM Jammu, his association as honorary professor enriches the MBA (Healthcare) programme by bringing practical insights into healthcare management and policy.
