Prof Romshoo conferred Satish Dhawan Award

JAMMU, Nov 21: In view of his outstanding life time contribution to the development and application of space technology for earth and environmental sciences, the Indian Society of Remote Sensing, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) conferred the prestigious Satish Dhawan National Award for the year 2018 on Prof Shakil Romshoo.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a medal and a citation. Prof Romshoo has won various other prestigious awards for his academic achievements and notable among them are the National Geoscience Award conferred by the President of India in 2013 and the Kasumigaura International Prize conferred by the Government of Japan in 2009.
He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and made an outstanding contribution to the development and application of space technology in the Himalayan region. He has worked, in the past, as a scientist at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Tokyo and Fellow at the Energy and Research Institute (TERI), New Delhi, India. Currently, Dr Romshoo is Professor and Head of Geoinformatics, Kashmir University, India.
