Priyanka Chopra wins for ‘Quantico’ at People Choice Awards

LOS ANGELES, Jan 7:
Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra has become the first Indian actress to win at the People Choice Awards for her performance of an FBI recruit on American show “Quantico”.
Priyanka won the trophy at the awards, which are decided by fans’ votes, in the favourite actress in a new TV series category.
She beat popular Hollywood and TV stars like Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lea Michele and Marcia Gay Harden to bag the award.
The 33-year-old actress, who looked stunning in a silver-gold metallic Vera Wang dress, thanked her fans for voting and said she feels great to be accepted by the American audience.
“I would like to thank all those who voted for ‘Quantico’. My first year in America… And to come to another country and to get this kind of acceptance is I guess what America is all about. So, thank you all for accepting me,” Priyanka said in her acceptance speech as the celebrity audience cheered for her.
She also took to Twitter to thank her fans.
“I am so fortunate! Thank you to everyone who voted for me at the #PCAs! My #PCManiacs-I am nothing without you! Big love,” she tweeted alongside a photo of her posing with the trophy.
“Quantico” marks Priyanka’s first Hollywood project. She has received a lot of praise for her portrayal of Alex Parrish, suspected of committing a terrorist attack, in the Thriller series.
Reacting to her win in the category, Priyanka said she was relieved in a way to be recognised by the American fans for “Quantico”.
“What a great way to start the year! Right now I’m just feeling very grateful and also relieved in someway… This is my debut year on American TV and to be recognized for my work with a big win like this is so amazing,” she said in a statement. (PTI)
