RAJOURI, May 26: Minister of State for Education Priya Sethi expressed concern that even though the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) has been established by an Act of the State Government, yet adequate funding for salaries of teachers and non-academic staff is not being provided to the University by the State Government and assured that she will take up the matter for providing liberal funding to the University.
She stated this during interaction with the Vice Chancellor of BGSBU Prof IA Hamal here today. Vibodh Gupta, Member Legislative Council (MLC), Rajouri, Deepti Uppal, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Prof AK Koul, Dean, Academic Affairs, Prof Mohammad Asgar, Dean, School of Mathematical Sciences and Engineering, Prof SK Gupta, Dean, Management Studies and Prof Nigath Basu, Dean, Education were also present.
During the interaction, the Minister was informed that the University is yet to receive the funds and the posts for the Polytechnic which has been established at the University, which was decided in a high level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister in 2011 as a result of which students have not been provided to the Polytechnic by the Technical Education Department which is causing academic loss to aspirants.
Minister assured the University that she will take up the matter with the Technical Education Department to transfer the posts and salary for the Polytechnic and to provide students under the Government quota so that they are able to get quality education in the serene academic environment of the University.
The members noted that a stringent examination system is followed in the University and due care is taken to ensure external evaluation and paper-checking so as to prepare the students to face the challenges of a professional career.
On the occasion, a detailed power-point presentation with regard to history and functioning of the University was given by Suneet Gupta, Special Secretary to Vice Chancellor.
It was informed that the University has introduced new academic programmes and is presently offering postgraduate, undergraduate, doctoral and diploma programmes in diverse fields. The University has also established a Community College which is fully funded by the UGC and offers short term academic programmes in Travel and Hospitality Management. The University is providing placement opportunities to the students who are being groomed through capacity building and training programmes for employability.
