Privilege Motion against Drabu

SRINAGAR, June 3: Opposition National Conference MLA Mohammad Shafi Uri today moved a privilege motion against Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu for allegedly breaching privilege of the House by making “untrue and baseless” statement on the floor.
Uri said that on June 1, NC leader Omar Abdullah had raised the issue of notifications on budget proposals issued by the Government without these being discussed by the House. He said that even the treasury benches supported the rollback of taxes. “In response, the Finance Minister made the statement that he followed the practice of Assemblies of the other States and Parliament,” the NC leader said.
He added that the statement made by Drabu is “untrue and baseless” and requested that the matter be referred to the Privilege Committee for investigation and report on the matter. He said that action be taken against the Minister for violating practices and rules. “It is contempt of the House and breach of privilege”, he said.
Speaker Kavinder Gupta said he has received the motion and would examine it before giving a ruling on it.
