REASI, Oct 21: A meeting of private schools of district Reasi was organized by Ashwani Khajuria, District President for the designated members of private schools of District Reasi to discuss their problems.
Members representing Katra, Jerri, Reasi, Bhangal, Kandyar, Dharmari, Mahore, Pouni, Ghar Jitto, Bhamala etc participated in the meeting and showed their serious concern over the notices circulated by Assistant Labour Commissioner Reasi to them for initiating legal action within three days in the court of law for not carrying out day to day functioning of the Private schools according to the J&K Shops and Establishment Act.
While speaking, members from far flung areas said that it has become worrisome for them to run a private school in the absence of adequate finances due to their low budget whereas prior to the year 2002, the self financed schools were functioning comfortably and there was no interference from the Government quarter.
“The Government never bothered to inform and educate private entrepreneurs about these Acts viz the J&K Shops & Establishment Act, Payment of Wages Act, Minimum Wages Act, maternity benefit, payment of gratuity etc while granting recognition,” the meet explained.
The participants said that due to hostile attitude of the Government, most of the private schools will come to halt as on the one hand Fee Fixation Committee has restricted the enhancement of fee while the Government has imposed various regulatory Acts.
General Secretary of the J&K Private Schools Association Ajay Gupta, who was a special invitee, briefed the members that the circulation of inspection notices after August 5, 2019 by the Labour Department in District Reasi is unethical as all Acts and SROs will have no relevance after October 31, 2019. Moreover the Government of India will come with new policies and frame work for Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh, newly created Union Territories after abrogation of Article 370.
The members unanimously appealed to the Governor to intervene and install a mechanism which is genuine, simple and acceptable to all the stakeholders of private educational sector to save this venture from harassment and extinction. The prominent, who attended the meeting, included B L Chiragi (Chairman PSA Reasi), Thomas Ooman (Vice President PSA Udhampur), Ajay Singh, Jawahar Pandita, Siddheshwar Sadhotra and others.
