Vijaypur, Aug 4: Former Minister and senior Vice President National Conference Surjeet Singh Slathia today said that empowerment of Panchayats has opened up vistas of avenues in the rural areas with decision for prioritizing development vested in the people at grass roots level.
Inaugurating a Panchayat Ghar at Patli Morh in the Vijaypur Constituency this afternoon, Slathia said that the empowering of Sarpanchs and Panchs to monitor the functioning of various departments in their jurisdiction will go a long way in improving efficiency and making administration result oriented.
He described the construction of the Panchayat Ghar and divesting certain powers to the public representatives as steps towards capacity building of the democratic institutions at the grass roots level and hoped that the members of Panchayat Raj Institutions will work towards rural upliftment with a sincerity of purpose and devotion.
The senior Vice President, who is also the MLA representing the constituency, said besides keeping watch over the functioning of various departments, engaged in the implementation of various welfare schemes and undertaking development, the Panchayat Raj Institutions will also monitor the implementation of various flagship schemes like MGNREGA, Indira Awas Yojna, TSC and NRLM, he added.
Slathia said that empowerment of Panchayats have shown discernible results with developmental initiative gaining momentum and awareness about various schemes tailored for the economic emancipation of the rural population getting impetus.
“The Government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has taken several initiatives for various segments of the population including unemployed educated youth, skilled and unskilled workers, women and various down trodden segments of the society”, he said, adding that with these measures the State is poised for socio-economic transformation in a big way.
