Prevailing situation requires co-operation from all regions: Vikramaditya

JAMMU, Sept 14: Calling upon the residents of Jammu and Kashmir to unitedly face the calamity caused by the unprecedented rains and floods in almost every nook and corner of the State, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today said that the prevailing situation requires patience, help, co-operation from all regions and sub-regions of the State and pooling in of all resources in terms of finances or manpower.
Addressing a meeting of senior party leaders to assess the prevailing flood situation in the State, PDP leader Vikramaditya said that this is a testing time for the residents of Jammu and Kashmir because State has been facing the worst ever natural calamity of the recent times.
He said that assessment of losses should be done on war-footing because miseries of the flood victims have been increasing with every passing day.
He suggested that the Government should constitute joint teams-comprising officers of all allied departments, to conduct joint surveys at village level so that relief and compensation should be disbursed to the affected without any delay. He asked the Government to provide free ration to the residents of flood affected districts.
Meeting observed that failure of the State’s machinery especially the Government’s disaster management wing to face the situation was a matter of concern. Meeting emphasized on the need of preparing State’s disaster management wing to face such calamity in the future.
Among others present were Ved Mahajan, Shanti Devi, Rashid Malik, Deepender Kour, Surjeet Kour, Maj Gen (Retd) R S Jamwal, Hussain Ali Wafa, Jagjeet Singh Jagga, Bharat Bhushan Gupta, Dr Kamal Saini, R K Bali, Amreek Singh Reen, Rashpal Billowaria, Capt Anil Gour, Narinder Singh Raina, etc.
Later, Vikramaditya visited areas from Garkhaal to Pargwal vis-à-vis Tawi Island, to assess the situation.
He assured the people that he would appeal to the Divisional Commissioner to take up relief works in these areas on priority. He also distributed relief material and essentials to the flood affected peoples.
He was accompanied by Suram Singh, district President rural Jammu, Satpal Singh Charak, Chairman Kissan Cell, Vikram Singh, Youth President Rural, Dev Raj Bhagat, Sarpanch.
