NEW DELHI: President Ram Nath Kovind presented National Awards to teachers for the year 2018 on the occasion of Teachers’ Day on Thursday and said teachers infuse the young minds with strong values and knowledge, thus contributing immensely towards nation building.
“Teachers infuse the young minds with strong values and inspire them to be curious, to seek knowledge and to dream. Doing this, they contribute immensely towards nation building,” Mr Kovind said in his address to teachers across the country at Vigyan Bhawan here.
The President was reminded of his own teachers on the day and said due to their guidance, he has reached the post where he is today.
“On Teachers’ Day, I pay homage to Dr S Radhakrishnan and extend greetings to all our teachers,” he said.
Quoting Dr Radhakrishnan, Mr Kovind said a good teacher remains a student whole of his life.
He emphasised the importance of “digital learning and character building” in students of the country.
Congratulating the awardees, Mr Kovind said teachers help students in becoming a great human being and they should inculcate honesty, integrity and discipline in their students.
Teachers, he maintained, also learned a lot from students, apart from books.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted teaching community on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.
Paying tributes to former President Dr Radhakrishnan on his Jayanti, Mr Modi said, “This is a day to salute the entire teaching fraternity for their hard work, dedication and commitment. In addition to teaching subjects in the classroom, teachers are exceptional guides and mentors, who play prominent roles on the lives of their students.”
The selfless nature of teachers is universally admired, the Prime Minister said.
“Despite the busy schedules and familial responsibilities, teachers ensure that students are able to learn new ideas and concepts with ease,”he pointed out.
