JAMMU: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has asked the planners and project developing agencies to preserve the cultural ethos and heritage value of Jammu and Srinagar cities while formulating and executing projects for the expansion and infrastructure development in these cities.

The Chief Minister was interacting with officers of Housing & Urban Development Department after reviewing some development proposals for these two cities.

The Chief Minister asked the planners to ensure creating more green space in these two cities besides walkways and solid waste management plants so that the developing needs of future times go in sync with Nature and clean environment.

Commissioner-Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, Hirdesh Kumar; Vice Chairman, Jammu Development Authority, Mubarak Singh; Vice-Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority, Tahseen Mustafa and other senior officers were present on the occasion.

The proposals envisage both area based and pan city development of   Jammu and Srinagar cities.

The Chief Minister was informed that 80 sub projects under 13 categories have been envisaged for the development of these two cities.

Among the key interventions of area based development (ABD) in Jammu include heritage and tourism promotion, improved Urban Mobility (incl. NMT and pedestrianization), Smart utilities management, innovative use of public spaces, improvement of drainage, sewerage and sanitation, digital infrastructure, core city area improvement and urban redevelopment projects.

For the development of Srinagar city the components of ABD include Jhelum Waterfront Rejuvenation, Baba Demb Lake Revival, heritage discovery and Restoration (incl. heritage walkways and pedestrian trails), upgrading historic markets (Maharaj Gunj, Bohri Kadal, Zaina Kadal), Artisan cluster development, hospitality & commercial development, city beautification and urban renewal, urban mobility, smart utilities management, sewage and sanitation and Solid Waste management.

Among the key pan city interventions in these two cities are urban mobility, E-governance, waste management and cleanliness and Disaster Management.
