UDHAMPUR, Aug 22: Presence of a leopard in village Chakhar, about 4 to 5 Kms from Udhampur town, has triggered panic among the locals who fear threat to their lives and domestic animals.
The feared stricken villagers held a protest demonstration, here today amid raising of slogans against the Wildlife Conservation Department and District administration.
The villagers rued that despite repeated attacks of the wild beats in the last two months, the authorities were not capturing it or making arrangements to ensure their safety.
“The wild beats has many times attacked domestic animals like cows buffalos, sheep etc and only last night, three goats were killed by leopard,” they said.
Locals appealed the Wildlife Conservation Department and district administration that the wild beast should be caught immediately for safety of the villagers and their livestock.
According to Rakesh Sharma from the Wildlife Department, teams have been sent to the spot and leopard would be caught soon.
