LEH, Apr 25: Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Dr Sonam Dawa convened a meeting with the Consultants engaged by United Nation Development Project (UNDP) and officers from Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, here today.
In the meet, CEC and Consultants discussed the project titled ‘Securing livelihoods, Conservation, Sustainable Use and Restoration of high range Himalayan Ecosystems (Secure- Himalayas)’.
CEC welcoming the team members expressed hope that this project would be very fruitful for Ladakh. He put forth some suggestions and issues relating to climate change, air pollution, value addition of world famous pashmina, seabuckthorn, and other valuable products of Ladakh for which LAHDC needs consultancy and expertise form the UNDP. He requested the team to prepare a holistic plan for conservation of Ladakh.
EC Works Dorje Mutop, EC Agriculture Tsering Wangdus, EC Tourism Tsering Sandup and Chief Conservator Wildlife Jigmet Takpa also attended the meeting.
Earlier, the delegation had a preliminary interactive meeting under the chairmanship of ADC, Leh, Rakesh Badyal here. The meeting was attended by local stakeholders including concerned HoDs, researchers and local experts. A power point presentation was given by the team members to appraise about the Secure- Himalayas project and points were discussed in detail. The delegation sought suggestions and ideas from local stakeholders in terms of landscape, livelihood, sustainability, biodiversity and prioritizing of areas for effective implementation and productive results of the project.
