JAMMU, Apr 28: A pregnant woman alongwith her three-year-old male child today jumped into River Chenab in Akhnoor area of city outskirts.
According to the reports, a lady identified as Anita Choudhary, wife of Sunil Kumar, a resident of Village Kalsiyan, tehsil Nowshera, district Rajouri, jumped into River Chenab from new bridge in Akhnoor, this afternoon.
On getting information of the incident from some passersby, a police team from Akhnoor police station reached the spot and launched search operation but neither the woman nor her child namely Arnav could be traced till the last reports came in.
However, the police have to suspend search operation in the evening in view of darkness and the same will be launched again tomorrow morning.
Quoting family members, the police said the lady contacted her sister about 11 am this morning and told her that she was being harassed by her in-laws.
A mobile phone of the lady was recovered from the spot of the incident, police said adding a case has been registered and investigations started to ascertain the circumstances which prompted the lady to take this extreme step.
