Powerful IED defused in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: Security forces on Wednesday averted a major tragedy, when they detected and defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), planted by militants on Srinagar bypass road.
Official sources said that in view of the high alert, security forces during night patrolling, noticed a pressure cooker at the bypass in the wee hours. Traffic on the busy bypass was stopped from both sides.
Later, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned and the IED in the pressure cooker was defused without causing any damage in the open field at 0200 hrs.
There are however, conflicting reports about the place where the IED had been planted as police said it was at Nowgam bypass and CRPF at Pampore.
Had it not been detected and defused, it would have caused major damage to life and property, they said, adding that the road is being used by security force convoy besides civilians. (AGENCIES)
