Sir,
This refers to the news item “J&K aims to become Power surplus”: Omer, D.E. dated 5th July. While addressing the gathering after inaugurating the Drungi Micro Hydro Power Project at Tangmarg, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, besides some other matters said “However the State Govt. has made remarkable dent in the power generation sector to bring welfare and functional autonomy to the Jammu & Kashmir.”
Everyone including the patients, students, yatries and children are crying in the sweltering heat and high relative humidity of this hot belt especially the winter capital of the State because of more than eight hours power cuts and low to very low voltage. Sometimes the cuts including the nocternal cuts are made hourly or two hourly. One just cannot read, work eat or sleep as a human being belonging to a civilised society and how miserable. The life actually is because of horribly shot supply of electric power is known only to the people whose wounds get sprayed with salt on reading such political statements. Just after the forenoon one starts feeling the sense of deprivation and mal-treatment by those who have taken upon themselves the responsibility of managing affairs of the State by providing atleast the basic human necessities of today’s urban life. How pitiable it sounds that inspite of more than liberal funding by the Center we have not been able to provide drinking water and reasonably sufficient electric power in all parts of the winter capital even after sixty five years of rule by the rulers of post independence era, who never get tired in self practise and selfpathing for the achievements made by the State. Delayed and weak monsoon has added fuel to the fire. Transmission and distribution losses of power are the highest in our State and such losses mostly occur with the connivance of the P.D.D. functionaries who for most of the time keep their mobile phones off and a common consumer can just do nothing except to wait for this luxury of supply restoration.
The authorities say that our supply system suffers from some infrastructural deficiences. If it is so, a high level enquiry should be instituted as to why these deficiencies are being allowed to persist, at the cost of people’s convenience, since more than ten years and who are the Govt. functionaries and politicians responsible for this heinous omission? The elected representatives of the area too have role to play which they must not forget.
Yours etc…
