REASI, Dec 29: For the non-payment of a whopping Rs 20 lakh electricity bill, the Power Development Department (PDD) today snapped the electricity supply connection of the BSNL office and exchange at Reasi district headquarters.
A senior PDD official said that BSNL authorities were issued disconnection notices several times as they had not paid electricity bills for the last three years. Their total bill had gone up to Rs 20,11,902. The SDO of the BSNL was just buying time for the last many months. Therefore, on the instructions of the higher authorities today, the PDD team led by AEE, PDD (M&RE) Ajay Paul Singh snapped the power supply to the BSNL office/ exchange.
The SDO when contacted said that funds had to be made available by the BSNL, J&K Circle office authorities at Jammu. He claimed that he had informed the higher officials but funds were not released. He admitted that communication services in the district would be affected with the snapping of power supply.
