REASI, Mar 2: Demanding a Government Degree College at Pouni and Sub-Division status to the area, locals took out a protest march, here today and then submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Tehsil office Pouni.
Led by former Minister and senior Congress leader Jugal Kishore Sharma, the protesting people marched through bazaars of Pouni town in the form of a procession, which culminated near the Tehsil office.
The protesting people were carrying placards and raising slogans in support of their demand for Government Degree College in Pouni and Sub-Division status . They also staged a protest demonstration before submitting the memorandum.
While addressing the protesters, Jugal Kishore said that people have been demanding Degree College to seek higher education to the students of Pouni and nearby areas. “Due to no Government Degree College in the area, a number of students, particularly girls are forced to discontinue their studies after Class 12th,” he said and warned that if the Government does not concede this genuine demand of the people, they would have no option other than to launch an agitation in this regard.
Jugal Kishore also said that a committee, headed by Khursheed Ahmad Ganaie was constituted to look into the demand and aspirations of the people where new administrative units were established. “Even as the committee recommended Sub-Divisional status for Pouni, Tehsil status for Ransoo and Block status for Bharakh, people are still waiting for these status to their area,” he added.
