Poultry business declines by 75% due to confusion among masses: Association

JAMMU, Feb 26: Due to confusion among the people that bird flu and swine flu are same, the poultry business across the State has seen a steep decline, which has even forced the people engaged with poultry business to slash the prices of their products.
This was stated by President of Jammu and Kashmir Poultry Association BS Jamwal while interacting with media persons during a press conference here this afternoon.
He clarified that swine flu and bird flu are different and not related to each other, adding that the virus stain of swine flu is H1N1, whereas the virus stain of the bird flu is H5N1.
Jamwal stated that bird flu is different problem and is related to the poultry, whereas swine flu happens due to pig. Across North India particularly in J&K no bird flu case has been declared by the Animal Husbandry Department for the past few years, he said, adding that, swine flu and bird flu has no relation in between.
He further disclosed that the population of swine (pigs) is very less in Jammu and Kashmir and with the confusion among the masses that swine flu and bird flu are same, people have stopped taking poultry products, which has affected their business adversely.
Even the Animal Husbandry Department has requested the people to take chicken and other poultry related products without any hesitation, he informed.
