JAMMU, May 3: BJP leader and National executive member, ST Morcha, Ishfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal, today expressed serious concerns over the plight of Pahari and Gujjar people saying that a large population of tribal population was suffering for want of basic amenities such as health care, water and power.
Poswal said that educated Gujjar and Pahari youths were jobless and sitting idle due to lack of employment opportunities. “Since 1947, the living conditions of Gujjar and Pahari people in Poonch, Rajouri and other areas of J&K are miserable due to lack of basic facilities. A large number of educated youths are jobless and facing starvation like conditions,” said Poswal.
The BJP leader hoped that he would be able to take up the issues with Narendra Modi led BJP Government. “Much to the satisfaction of these tribal people, the BJP led Government for the first time created a tribal Ministry for the welfare of people of J&K but a lot needs to be done to uplift the living standards of these ignored people and also provide employment opportunities to the jobless,” he added.
