JAMMU, Oct 12: Department of Posts (DoP) will start core banking services across Jammu and Kashmir with 13 of its head post offices in the State expected to begin banking facilities in the next three months.
This was stated by Chief Postmaster General (CPG), J&K Circle, Chandra Prakash while interacting with reporters here today.
He added that the department will also install Automated Teller Machines (ATM) in J&K where the customers will get all the banking facilities being provided by other banks, adding that 13 ATMs are planned to be made operational in the Circle.
Prakash informed that J&K Postal Service is celebrating National Postal Week from October 9 to 15 to mark the anniversary of the establishment of Universal Postal Union.
“Postal Week is meant to showcase various products and services being provided by the Department and to connect with the people. To highlight various services, each day of the week has been dedicated to specific services like October 9 was World Post Day, October 10 was Savings Bank Day, October 12 was Mail Day, October 13 will be Philately, October 14 will be Postal Life Insurance Day and October 15 will be Business Development Day”, he added.
DoP is in the process of inducting technology in its ambitious IT project, which will cover all the aspects of all the services including mail, delivery, savings bank, insurance services, etc, he said, adding that Saving Bank operations have been shifted to Core Banking Solution (CBS) platform.
The Department has already provided Track and Trace facility for Speed Post and Registered Post services in both letter mail and parcel mail service, he said, adding that till August 2015, the Department has earned revenue of Rs 1.98 crore under Speed Post Service as compared to Rs 1.80 crores during the same period last year.
Another feather in the cap of the Department is in principle approval granted by RBI for establishment of India Post Payments Bank which is expected to be operational by end of March 2017, he said, adding that under Project Arrow, Department has covered 47 Post Offices under Look and Feel and 7 Post Offices under Up keep. During the current year, 3 Sub Post Offices will be brought under Look and Feel and 2 Head Post Offices under Up keep, he added.
During the current financial year 100 Branch Post Offices will be provided with infrastructural equipments, and 613 Branch Post Offices will be provided with new signage, Prakash added.
