JAMMU, Nov 20: Kashmiri Pandit Conference ( KPC ) in a meeting today at New Delhi stated that ongoing elections of District Development Council ( DDC ) in Valley is a big joke with displaced Kashmiri Pandits as the Government failed to reserve some blocks for the community in Kashmir for their political empowerment and as a prelude to their rehabilitation in Kashyap land.
Kundan Kashmiri, president KPC stated that it is most unfortunate that the exiled Kashmiri Pandit community uprooted from their homes and hearths for the last about 31 years, and presently residing outside Valley are being asked to take part in the elections to District Development Councils (DDC) by postal ballots and vote for the Valley based candidates, which is completely no use for them. It is difficult to comprehend as to whether, like this act of attaching them cosmetically and spuriously with Kashmir where they are not permitted fearlessly and peacefully to live, so whole displaced community feels the act is tantamount towards disenfranchising them and making a joke of their political rights .
He said how the Government as well as the JK Election Commission authorities can deny the voting rights and representation at the present place of living to the exiled community which is detestable, reprehensible and resistible by all counts.
Kashmiri, further stated that those People who have come from outside JK, like Rohingyas are getting better treatment and all privileges than the five thousand old aborigines of Kashmir the victim Kashmiri Pandits .He also questioned the political parties and Human Rights Bodies why they are silent when displaced KP voters are not allowed to vote or elect their own representative at present living places and get humiliated and excluded from political and other rights and activities.
KPC hoped that the unjustified decision of postal ballots must be reviewed with proper and justifiable representation to be given to the displaced community in these DDC elections.
