Porter killed in shelling

Srinagar, July 29: A porter was killed as Pakistani troops violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district while three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of militants were arrested in Bandipora.
An official identified him as Mohammed Altaf Jeendar, 25, son of Mohammed Sulaiman Jeendar of Gohallan Uri, a porter with 11 Mahar regiment of army. He said that he was killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistan at Rajpoot Taikri in Lachipora area of Boniyar when he was working with army.

Srinagar based Defence spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kaila said that Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation this afternoon along the LoC in Uri Sector by firing mortars and other weapons. “One Army porter, who was injured in CFV later succumbed to injuries”, he said.
The spokesman said that army gave befitting response to the Pakistani shelling.
This is for the second consecutive day that Pakistani troops violated ceasefire along the LoC in North Kashmir.
Pakistan violated ceasefire in Kupwara sector of North Kashmir yesterday. The violation was done in Macchil and Gugaldara sectors of Kupwara by firing mortars and other weapons. However, no loss of life or property was reported in these two areas.
Meanwhile, police in Bandipora today arrested three OGWs of militants.
A police spokesman identified them as Abrar Gulzar resident of Bagh Bandipora, Mohd Waqar resident of Chittay Banday and Muneer Ahmad Sheikh resident of Quil Muqam Bandipora.
As per the police records, they were involved in various subversive activities besides providing logistic support and assistance to the militants operating in district Bandipora. “Incriminating material has been recovered from their possession”, police said.
Police said a case (FIR No. 74/2020) under relevant Sections of law has been registered at Police Station Bandipora and further investigation initiated.
