Portal for domicile fulfils demand of ‘unregistered migrants’: Chrungoo

JAMMU, July 25: While it is gratifying to note that the UT Government finally launched the National Informatics Centre (NIC) hosted portal for registration of “unregistered migrants” with the Relief Commissioner’s office at Jammu for purposes of Domicile Certificate, it will also cater to the demand of NRIs and the other category of the displaced persons as well”, said Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, senior BJP & KP leader and incharge Department of Political Affairs & feedback, J&K-BJP.
Chrungoo said that the Government and especially the Department of DMRR and the office of the Relief Commissioner deserve due compliments for fulfilling their promise to do it well before the target, i.e the end of July 2020. It hence paves way for registration of all the ‘Unregistered migrants’, NRIs and others who are the hereditary residents of Jammu and Kashmir but have not been living in the J&K State for a long time now.
He said, “Those NRIs who are OCl/PIO certificate holders and are the hereditary State Subjects can apply for the Domicile procedure on the NIC portal with immediate effect. People of J&K scattered all over the country and who are registered with any other State/UT Governments also have to register on the same portal”, he added.
He said it is now the turn of the political parties, social organizations and the voluntary institutions to encourage, inspire and motivate people to register and apply for the Domicile procedure and certificate. There is a need of social awakening and campaign for this purpose. Though we have one year left with us to do our registration yet it will be better to go online as soon as possible for the procedure on the link: http://jkmigrantrelief.nic.in, he added.
Chrungoo maintained that the political upmanship in demanding Statehood back is being seen by the people as motivated by selfish ends. In a federal structure of the Union, it is futile to differentiate between the statehood and the UT status. “In all cases, we are Indians and are governed by the Constitution of India having sovereignty of Parliament as the supreme ideal. It is simply aimed at to hoodwink the public opinion when some political groups cry hoarse about the so-called statehood”.
