JAMMU, Dec 16: Poorva Sainik Sewa Parishad a premier organization of Ex-servicemen organized a function here today in connection with Vijay Diwas to commemorate magnificent Indian Armed forces victory over Pakistan in December 1971 War resulting in creation of Bangladesh and surrender of 93000 Pakistani soldiers with their weapons which is the world record.
Earlier, this record was made by Germany during 2nd World War, where they forced surrender of 90,000 Russian troops. This day was celebrated by Parishad in a unique manner, to honour martyrs of the State who laid down their lives during this year for the national cause. This year 10 martyrs belonging to State were honoured by presentation of cash award of Rs.5000 and a Shawl each.
Belonging to different districts of the State out of these 10 martyrs one belongs to Army, 4 to CRPF and 4 to J&K Police. The financial support for the function was provided by Jai Kargil Jai Bharat Kosh.
The function was held under the supervision of Brig. (retd) S.S.Saini, President J&K State PSSP and conducted by Lt.Col. (retd) N.S.Sambyal its general secretary. Major Gen.(Retd).Shamsher Singh was the chief guest on the occasion. Similarly another illustrious soldier Brig.(retd) Suchet Singh was the chairman of the function. Ex-Servicemen from all over State participated in the function.
On this occasion Lt.Col.N.S.Sambyal gave a brief introduction about PSSP and appreciated the role of Ex-Serviceman.
Speaking on the occasion Lt.Col.(retd) K.S.Juneja highlighted the role of Poorva Sainik Sewa Parishad. PSSP has started Veer Gram Yojana for the development of the rural area of the State. He said the organisation has started its work from Jammu and Kashmir, which has now spread to 29 States of the Country.
The martyrs who were felicitated posthumously included ASI Sukhpaul Singh, Constable Dilbeer Singh,.Constable Mukhtar Ahmed, Major Mayur Jamwal, Constable Reyaz Ahmed, Constable Ram Singh Slathia, Constable Irshad Ahmed, Constable Pawan Kumar and NK Rajeswer Singh.
