Jammu, Mar 3: Col Sukhvir Mankotia (Retd) general secretary Akhil Bhartiya Poorva Sainik Seva Parishad today said that the only way to protect innocent civilians of border and remote villages is by effective deployment of Village Defence Groups (VDGs)
“With the changing times, terrorists are changing their strategy hence to ensure that our VDG Guards are ahead of terrorists plans , for that a little bit of change in structuring, training and redeployment is mandatory,” Mankotia said.
“All VDGs are to be re-organized and redeployed as per threat perception, to ensure effective use of funds and resources available,” he added.
He said in border areas, all VDGs should be put under local Army units deployed in that area for effective utilisation and training.
For better management , complaint redressal , effective utilisation , command and control of VDGs, a VDG cell should be created at all districts level headed by an ex-serviceman from Army/ Police/ Paramilitary Forces, he said
