JAMMU, May 1: Extremely poor services of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Jammu and Kashmir are frustrating for the people as concerned officers of this Government owned telecom company have virtually turned a Nelson’s eye towards the problems being encountered by the subscribers.
Whether it is mobile phone service or internet connectivity, the poor signal strength and slow speed are general complaints of the BSNL subscribers, who are paying hundreds of crores of rupees to the company as revenue but getting extremely low quality services.
Refreshing the same page again and again with repeated failure in downloading for hours together and frequent disconnection or interruption in the calls are synonymous to BSNL in Jammu and Kashmir where the company has highest number of subscribers among all the telecom operators in the State.
Poor services of BSNL are subjecting its subscribers nightmarish experiences, particularly during the emergency hours. “I could not secure a Tatkal ticket because of low internet speed and thus missed an important business meeting at New Delhi, last week,” said a young entrepreneur who has subscribed Wi-Fi service of BSNL in his office as well as at home.
Not only the individuals but even work in offices is also used to suffer because of poor internet speed of BSNL and in such hours of crisis, the alternative service of other telecom operators is the only help.
Since internet has assumed an important role in facilitating students of their studies also, poor service and slow speed deprive them from getting informative material timely as the requisite sites are not downloaded several times despite repeated attempts. Similarly, the unemployed educated youth also suffer as they fail to fill up on-line application forms several times because of slow internet connections.
Some people, who have the option of working from home as their job can be done primarily using an internet connection and a mobile phone in case of emergency, loose this advantage as slow internet connection does not allow them work effectively.
Not only the slow internet speed but poor signal strength of mobile phones also is another feature of the BSNL in Jammu and Kashmir where you have to connect a number of times for making a single call.
Ironically, despite repeated appeals of the people for improvement in services, all such pleas are paid no heed by the concerned BSNL officers for whom the subscribers are only meant for minting money. Since the Department of Telecom does not come under the State Government, the BSNL officers care least to the locals and this is the apparent reason behind their lackluster approach towards improving the quality of services, explained some people.
