Poonchi raises demands of Gujjar-Bakarwal community

POONCH, Oct 24: Gujjar leader, Shamsher Hakla Poonchi has demanded concrete steps for the welfare and up-liftment of Gujjar-Bakarwal tribes of J&K.
In a handout he claimed that Gujjar-Bakarwal people living in J&K mostly reside in hilly, far-flung and mountainous areas near forests along the LoC and International Border.
Poonchi also claimed that localities of Gujjars and Bakarwals lack facilities like roads, electricity and water supply, medical facilities and educational facilities.
He demanded opening of boarding schools in all the districts of J&K on the pattern of Navodya Vidyalaya for Gujjar-Bakarwal children.
His other demands included tribal university in J&K, inclusion of Gojri language in Eighth Schedule of Indian Constitution and political reservation for Gujjars.
