JAMMU, Dec 24: Poonch mine blast victims have demanded immediate release of their pending compensation as the landmines along the line of Control in Poonch district have rendered them disabled and mentally scared for life, with no help coming from any corner.
Raising their voice in a press conference, today,  Deepika Singh Rajawat, chairman, Voice for Rights said that even after decades, people who lost their limbs and lives in landmine blasts in district Poonch have got no or inadequate compensation.
Deepika cited some examples of landmine victims and said that it is unfortunate that officials at the DC’s office, Poonch say that only 20 cases of relief and compensation are pending in its records, but the fact is somewhat different.
According to her, study reveals that at least 550 victims of landmine blasts from Poonch district are awaiting compensation. Singh told that Government has been downplaying the total number of mine victims in the State.
She asked the Government for a long term rehabilitation policy so that these victims could ably meet disability challenges in their life. Poverty at home, lack of public infrastructure and Government services in the mountainous region and apathy of policy makers have pushed these innocent people in zone of darkness.
