Polling staff airlifted in Leh

JAMMU, Oct 14: The district administration in Leh today airlifted polling staff and security personnel to six polling stations in remote and far off areas while staff to another 100 polling stations will be sent by road tomorrow morning. Rest of the staff will depart on October 16 i.e. a day before the polling for 26 segments of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh.
Six polling stations, where polling staff and paramilitary and police personnel were airlifted today, included Skumpata, Lingshet, Depling, Neraks, Youlchang and Fotoskar.
Official sources said after initial hiccups, the Government had agreed to arrange air sorties for the polling staff, paramilitary and police personnel for six remote polling stations.
The polling staff in 100 other stations, which were accessible by road but were located in far off areas requiring some distance to trek, will be sent tomorrow morning. Rest of the staff will depart on October 16, a day before the polling.
Campaigning for the election will come to an end at 5 pm tomorrow though major political rallies ended today. Polling will be held in all 26 segments of the LAHDC Leh on October 17 while counting will take place on October 23.
