JAMMU, Oct 2: Various political parties celebrated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Rich tributes were paid by the Congress leaders and workers to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 146th birth anniversary in a function held at Gandhi Chowk, Satwari. PCC president and former minister Ghulam Ahmed Mir presided over the function. President Indian Youth Congress Amarinder Singh Brar, along with a large number of Youth Congress activists undertook ‘Gandhi Sandesh Yatra’ from Jammu Airport and later joined the celebration at Satwari Chowk. PCC members also paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bhadur Shastri and recalled his contributions. Sham Lal Sharma, Raman Bhalla, Hari Singh, Kanta Bhan, Aijaz Ahmed Khan (MLA), Shabir Khan, Manjeet Singh, Manmohan Singh, Vikram Malhotra, Indu Pawar, Namrata Sharma,  etc.
On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee held a meeting, in which prominent leaders and workers took part. The meeting was presided over by Former PCC President Peerzada Mohammad Syed. The speakers paid glowing tributes to Father of the Nation on his 146th Birth Anniversary and threw light on the life of Gandhi Ji. Those who were present include Jehngir Hussain Mir, Deputy LC, MLC Gulam Nabi Monga, MLA Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, MLA GM Saroori, Vice Presidents, MLC Mohammad Muzaffar Parray, etc.
To commemorate the celebrations of Gandhi Jayanti, a programme was organized at Jagriti Old Age Home Udhampur.  Minister of State for Finance and Information Technology was the chief guest on the occasion while District Development Commissioner Udhampur, Dr  Shahid Iqbal Choudhary  was the guest of honour. Minister paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Rajinder Parsad and threw light about the teaching and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. While responding to the demands and problems faced by the Jagriti management committee and locals of the area, Mr. Gupta assured all possible help to mitigate their genuine problems and demands. Among others, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Rajeev Magotra, Tehsildar, Sapna Kotwal, renowned poet, Dr Shiv Nirmohi, prominent citizens, large number of people and inmates were also present on the occasion.
Ex-Councilor and Vice President of DCC Samba Babal Gupta alongwith the Congress workers organized function to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti. Floral tributes were paid to Gandhi Ji. Prem Lal, Dalip Kumar Guran Ditta, Deepak, Rakesh Kumar,   Bharat Bhushan, Lal Chand, Surinder Sharma and Makhan Lal Gutpa were also present.
Vice President JKPCC and MLA Inderwal, GM Saroori paid tributes to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 146th birth anniversary. MLA Inderwal, in his message on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s contributions to the struggle for the achievement of freedom from the colonial yoke, his sustained campaign against social injustice, racism and suppression of the under-privileged sections and his unending pursuit for establishment of a truly secular and harmonious society.
Former MLA from Chenani-Ghordi Constituency Krishan Chander Bhagat paid floral tributes to the Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary in presence of Congress workers at Chenani.
BJP paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary. On the occasion, tributes were paid by Ajay Pargal, State General Secretary BJYM, BJP Election Incharge Gandhi Nagar Mandal, Tarseem Choudhary, Gandhi Nagar Mandal President, Ishant Gupta, District President BJYM Jammu, Surat Singh Charak Gandhi Nagar Mandal General Secretary BJP, District Secretary BJYM Ashwani Sharma, and Alok Mahajan. The speakers highlighted the importance of the day and threw light on the life and teachings of both the leaders.
Congress party workers organized a function to pay homage to father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi and second Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary at Kathua. Dozens of Congress activists under the leadership of District Congress Committee President Former MLC Subash Chander Gupta paid rich tributes to the duo leaders of the nation by offering flowers to their portraits. Naresh Sharma, ex president, MC Kathua, Pankaj Dogra, Secretary PCC, Aradhana Andotra, Secretary PCC, Rattan Chand Karotra, Retd SP, Yugal Kishore Bali, Vice-President DCC and many other prominent persons were present on the occasion.
While speaking in a program to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti organized by ST Morcha of Bhartiya Janta Party, Rajesh Gupta, MLA, Jammu East called for total cleanliness and beautification of river Tawi. The programme was organized by Eshfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal, member National Executive, BJP ST Morcha. Akram, General Secretary, Muslim Federation, J&K, Irfan Ahmed, youth leader BJP, HS Kranti, renowned social activist and many others were present on the occasion.
The program was supported by 72 Battalion of CRPF and was represented by Assistant Commandant Amar Singh. Several officers and Jawans of the battalion were also present.
Congress Executive member JKPCC and former Minister Mohammed Sharief Niaz, who is on tour of Bhaderwah constituency while interacting with Congress workers urged the people for rejecting politics of region or religion and live cohesively in peace for  overcoming serious issues like unemployment and corruption. Niaz said that government must ban alcohol and all tobacco products to pay real homage to Mahatma Gandhi.
JKNPP Chief Patron Prof Bhim Singh while paying floral tributes to father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 146th birth anniversary said that that Mahatma’s message of non-violence has been accepted by the World Nations as a beacon light for maintenance of peace and prosperity on the planet, whereas Former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shashtri has been called as National pride. He was addressing JKNPP Secretariat at party headquarters. Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman, NPP, Yashpal Kundal, State President, Young Panthers, PK Ganju, State Vice-President, Anita Thakur, general secretary, Bansi Lal Sharma, political advisor JKNPP and Jagdev Singh, Coordination Secretary were also present.
The Congress Committee at Kishtwar celebrated Gandhi Jayanti under the chairmanship of Randeep Bhandari, Congress Leader. Rich tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi. While speaking, Randeep Bhandari urged upon all the citizens to imbibe the principles enshrined in Mahatma Gandhi’s teaching. Others who were present were Seri Chand, Subash Chander, Raj Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Kishori Kumar, etc.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at Exhibition Ground. The programme was organized by Rajesh Bali and Bed Sharma under the leadership of POC’s incharge Vipan Nischal. Present on the occasion were Rani Devi, Anita Gupta, Tilak Raj Gupta, SB Bakshi, etc.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing a function, which was presided over by Former Minister and NCP State Chief Randhir Singh.
To commemorate birth anniversary of Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri, Aam Aadmi Party organized cleanliness drive, which started from SMGS Hospital, Shalamar Road. The members and volunteers of AAP participated in the drive with enthusiasm.
