SRINAGAR, Nov 11: Reacting to criticism that he slammed Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar for his remark on No First Use (NFU) nuclear policy, former chief minister Omar Abdullah today said it was a polite reminder of the stature and benefit that India has gained internationally because of this policy.
“No first use has been the corner-stone of our nuclear policy and allowed India to lay claim to being a responsible power after Pokhran-2,” Mr Abdullah, also the working president of National Conference (NC), tweeted.
He was reacting to the remarks of the Defence Minister allegedly questioning the NFU nuclear policy. “I wonder why we say that we don’t use nuclear weapons first. Doesn’t mean India has to use nukes, but why rule out,” Mr Parrikar had said.
“I didn’t “slam” anything. I very politely reminded him of the stature/benefit India has gained internationally from NFU, that’s all,” Mr Abdullah added.
