Police seizes 8 kgs of poppy straw

KATHUA, Aug 1: In Its action against drug dealings and to neutralise the activities of drug peddlers within the district, Kathua police under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua, R C Kotwal today recovered approximately eight kgs of Poppy Straw and seized the vehicle along with contraband on spot.
Police said today a team of Police Station (PS), Kathua under the supervision of Inspector, Om Parkash Chib, SHO during naka checking duty at Logate Morh, Kathua noticed one suspicious truck bearing Registration Number JK02AQ-2395 which was on way from Jammu to Lakhanpur. As driver was signaled for checking he defied the police signal and fled from the spot along with vehicle. During chasing the truck was driven in rash and negligent manner. It hit with two barriers of Railway Crossing Link road Janglote Kathua and the driver managed to fled away from the spot leaving vehicle behind.
During checking approx eight kilograms of Poppy Straw was recovered from the vehicle along with one driving License No. JK08-0820150004180 and Voter Card No. LNM0223669 of Talib Hussain, son of Qasim Din of Basantpur tehsil & district, Kathua and one Adhaar Card No. 848492522181 of Ranjit Singh, son of Baldev Singh of Digiana Jammu were also recovered. Thereafter search was started to trace the accused. A case FIR No. 356/2021 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act,279/336/IPC, 3/Prevention of Damage Public Property Act has been registered at Police Station, Kathua and further investigation is underway.
