Police seize 5 vehicles involved in illegal mining

UDHAMPUR, May 3: Continuing its endeavor to stop the illegal mining and transportation of minerals, Police seized five vehicles involved in illegal mining, here today.
A team of Police Post Tikri, led by Incharge Police Post PSI Abdul Satar, seized five tippers which were carrying sand and gravels illegally excavated from river beds.
The seized vehicles, bearing registration numbers JK14C- 6253, JK20A- 2633, JK14C-8733, JK02BJ- 7986 and JK 14A- 0643 were later on handed over to Geology and Mining Department for legal action.
Similarly, yesterday, a team of Police Station Udhampur seized 4 vehicles involved in illegal mineral transportation and legal action taken.
Pertinently, during the current year, 39 vehicles including two excavators have been seized by Udhampur Police and handed over to Geology and Mining department where a commulative fine of more than Rs 7 lakhs was imposed.
It is worth to mention that rates of minor minerals and its transportation have been notified by competent authority and are already displayed at prominent locations of the District. Any citizen having grievances regarding overcharging in buying minor minerals or in its transportation may immediately approach nearest Police Station for legal action as warranted under law.
