JAMMU, Aug 14: Jammu Police has registered a complaint filed by management of Daily Excelsior newspaper against Admins and Members of certain WhatsApp Groups in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions for circulating newspaper in PDF file in violation of Copyright Act.
The complaint said that some of the Admins were even charging Rs 30 per month from the WhatsApp Group members for circulating the newspaper in PDF file.
Circulation of the newspaper unauthorizedly in Social Media platform including the WhatsApp Groups is not only the violation of Copyright Act but also an offence under various other laws.
After taking cognizance of the complaint filed by management of the Daily Excelsior, Jammu Police has initiated investigations for taking action against Admins and other persons who are circulating the Excelsior newspaper in the Groups after making the PDF file.
The Excelsior has also provided police a list of some of the persons including Admins of WhatsApp Groups in Jammu and Kashmir regions, who were not only circulating the newspaper but also charging money from the members.
