Police recovers illicit timber

Srinagar, Jan 15: Police in Sopore today recovered a consignment of illicit timber and seized a vehicle used in the commission of the crime.
As per authorities, the action was taken on specific intelligence about the illegal extraction of willow timber logs from Forest Compartment No. 14, Janwara Nambal during the night of 13, 14 January.
Acting swiftly, a police team from Police Post Warpora along with the Forest Department, established a checkpoint at Janwara and intercepted a vehicle (tractor) bearing registration No. JK05D-3984, authorities said.
“During search, illicit willow timber cut from Forest Compartment No. 13, Janwara Nambal, was recovered from the said vehicle (tractor),” police said.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 05/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Sopore and further investigation is underway.
