REASI, Aug 31: In a strange incident, a mob of local villagers allegedly attacked a police party of Police Station Chassana in Mahore Sub-Division and whisked away a detained former Sarpanch from the police custody, here today.
According to unconfirmed reports, a few cops sustained minor injuries and a police vehicle was also damaged in the attack, which took place this evening.
The detainee, who was whisked away from police custody, has been identified as ex-Sarpanch Prem Singh, son of Chatar Singh, resident of Thalkote, Chassana. He was wanted in a rape case, filed by his foster daughter and police had arrested him this evening for remand.
However, SSP Reasi, Shailender Singh told Excelsior that the accused, who is a history sheeter and wanted in a rape case, managed to give slip to the police party when he was being taken to hospital for medical examination. He denied the reports of any attack on Chassana Police Station or police party.
