Police intensify anti-drug drive across Kashmir

SRINAGAR, May 14: Police today said that under the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan,” coordinated anti-narcotics operations were carried out across multiple districts including Kulgam, Srinagar, Anantnag, Budgam, Qazigund and Baramulla.
A police spokesperson said that illegal properties linked to drug peddlers were demolished in Kulgam and Anantnag, while a residential house and land worth around Rs. 1.20 crore was attached in Srinagar under the NDPS Act.
In Anantnag, police also attached eight vehicles linked to drug-related activities and arrested a peddler with recovery of contraband substances, the spokesperson said. In Budgam, illegal poppy cultivation spread over about 15 marlas was destroyed after registration of a case.
The spokesperson further said that in Qazigund, police busted an interstate drug network leading to arrests and recovery of heroin-like substances and other incriminating material, while investigations are continuing to trace the wider network.
In Awantipora, the spokesperson said, anti-drug awareness rallies, enforcement drives, raids, and sealing of illegal medical shops were also conducted. In Baramulla, awareness programmes including cross-country runs were organised with students to spread the message of a drug-free society.
The spokesperson added that police remain committed to strict legal action against drug traffickers and continue to appeal to the public to share information about narcotics activities.
