JAMMU, Apr  21: The police today foiled the protest march of  displaced persons from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir to the Civil Secretariat here.
A large number of  displaced families from PoJK assembled at Press Club under the banner of  PoJK DPs’ Front 1947, 1965, 1971 and Non Camp-1971 and started protest demonstration. Capt (Retd) Yudhvir Singh Chib was leading the protest.  They were raising slogans demanding settlement of their issue once for all.
The DPs were also demanding that process of distribution of Rs 2000 crore package announced by Prime Minister Modi be started but mere this amount is not acceptable. They also rejected the  notification  issued by the Deputy Commissioner Jammu in this regard and said that it is  confusing and most irrelevant piece of paper.  They alleged that only this meager package excluding other components  even recommended by the Joint Parliamentary Committee is not acceptable to them.
As the protesting DPs wanted to take out their protest rally towards Civil Secretariat via Gumat and Shalamar, the strong  contingent of  police and para-military force stopped them. They had little scuffle with the cops but heavy deployment of force stalled their march
Later, while addressing the agitating DPs, Capt Yudhvir Singh asked the Government to release the already announced package in favour of DP families. He said three months are over but the process has not yet commenced. Capt Singh demanded that leftout families should also be enlisted/ registered, minimum Rs 30 lakh compensation be provided to each family, ALC certificate to all DPs, provide 15 % reservation to their wards in colleges and other professional institutes and political reservation to DPs and provide ownership rights to those allotted EP houses or given such lands. He also demanded formation of Development Board for this community.
Capt  Chib said that during previous Assembly elections, Mr Modi had made  announcement of package before elections but that has not been fulfilled and the members of the community are watching this all very closely.     He also demanded that refugee leaders should be taken into confidence before disbursement of financial package. He said  proper verification be done before disbursement of  package.
